Have you ever had someone tell a story about you that wasn’t true? I definitely have. And it’s easy to say “sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me,” but the truth is- words matter and can hurt a lot. They can easily become part of the fabric of how we see ourselves, how we respond to things, how we form relationships- pretty much everything. When I was in 5th grade, I watched my best friend turn into my worst bully almost overnight and it’s an experience that stuck with me and taught me many (many) lessons. The most important one though, was the lesson that the only story worth a damn (when it comes to who you are and who you want to be) is the story you write yourself.
