I woke up this morning to my father in law calling my husband's cell phone and my mom texting mine. It was 6:15a. As soon as we picked up/called back, you could hear the relief in their voices. "Just wanted to make sure you're okay." "Was afraid you went to the movies.." I was still confused on what happened so I had my mom recall the news story she'd heard earlier that morning. The news story she heard around 6a her time and tried to wait until "a reasonable hour" before calling us to see if we were okay.
A 24 year old dressed in riot gear entered a midnight showing of the new Batman movie through the emergency exits. He threw in tear gas first and then proceeded to walk up the aisles shooting randomly at the crowd. He killed 12 people and injured some 50ish- from the last report I read, one of the victims was only a few months old.
I wish I had something more eloquent to say, but when it comes down to it I just don't get this crap. What makes someone think they have to right to hurt and kill people? What makes someone plan to attack a room of completely innocent people? How does someone get off thinking they have the right to steal someone's life- to take people from their families and leave the ones who escaped traumatized for the rest of theirs.
I know life doesn't always make sense and I know some people are truly disturbed, but I just can't understand. I can't help but just feel so angry and saddened that this happens in our world.
My heart goes out to all of the victims and their families.
