I have a confession- I'm not much of a pie person*. Feed me a tart, a cobbler, a crumb cake, a pastry...pretty much anything except a pie. Don't get me wrong- I love the process, the smells, and the whole idea of fresh fruit pies (and let's be honest- my heart starts palpitating the moment I see beautiful lattice work.) but the problem is that I normally find myself either overwhelmed with the gooey sweetness or disappointed in the crust to filling ratio (more crust people, always more crust.)
Even so, I still love this pie plate. It reminds me of picking out glazes in ceramics class- clay squares covered with little swatches of fired glaze and their corresponding number or name.
*Despite not loving pie, I will always try an apple pie. Something about them calls to me and I continuously make it my fall/winter mission to find the perfect apple pie. The slice with just enough buttery crust, apples with the perfect barely there crunch, and of course just the right balance of cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg. I haven't found it yet, but I will.
