Paper Goodness
Birthday Party in a Box
It just so happens that one of my great friends happens to have the same birthday as J.
Now this is both wonderful and not so wonderful. The wonderful side is that I will never ever forget her birthday- it's set in my memory. The not so wonderful side is that I don't get to celebrate with her on her birthday (well unless we did a huge double birthday, but personally, I don't like how that takes away from the specialness of each birthday person.) So in order to kind of get to celebrate with her on her actual birthday this year, I made her a party in a box. Have no clue what I am talking about? Well here is the finished product:
After writing a message inside the box top, I slyly delivered it to her house. Oh and by slyly, I mean looking like an absolute creepier running up to her front door, sliding the box through her mail slot without clanking around too much, and running really quickly back to my car as her neighbor- who happened to be pruning his hedges at the exact moment of the "drop and run"- stared at me like I was a crazy woman). Either way, all the running and funny looks were well worth it when I got her call later that afternoon saying thanks! It made me even happier to know I got it to her on time since she then told me she was staying in to take care of her husband who was in bed sick with the flu. (And given that L is actually a nurse, I know he's being well taken care of!) Anyhow, I thought I'd share her "party" with y'all and wish her a happy (belated) birthday on the blog. Happy Birthday, L!!
Sneak Peak
I'm working on a wedding order right now for a lovely Australian bride so I am a little busy and haven't been able to make a ton of boards lately. I'm so sorry! But since everyone has been so patient, I thought I would give you a sneak peek into what I've been working on lately. Promise photographs of the finished product are just days away!
Will You be my Bridesmaid?
I really wanted to do something cute to ask my close friends to be my bridesmaids. Maybe a dress shaped cookie or a super cute handmade card, but alas, my friends all pretty much knew they were my bridesmaids and just kind of jumped on the band wagon. I'll explain a little more.
I texted everyone right away once J and I got engaged (well after calling family etc.) We happened to be outside of Atlanta so we swung by and saw my sister to tell her the good news before J and I went to have a "we just got engaged!" dinner. We were driving back to Athens after dinner when I got a text from my sister. My one and only sister by the way.
"I'm your maid of honor, right?"
Well, yes, of course you are, but there goes the super cute card surprise :)
Then I talk to my bff, A (I know, third grade flash back, but seriously, we were born 4 days apart from each other and pretty much have been inseparable ever since) and she doesn't even ask. She starts planning :) "So, since I know I'm not your maid of honor and I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I'm already starting to plan your bachelorette party." Just another reason I love A. She doesn't even care about the card. Honestly, she probably would have made fun of me and sent one back saying "I need to think about it."
That same night (I believe) I talked to my other super close friend (and sorority sister) A. (yep. same initials. Oh, and have I mentioned how all of my bridesmaids looked the same? 3 of the 4 had roughly the same hair cut too haha. Apparently I'm just not close with many blondes...) Anyhow, I knew I had to ask her quickly because she and her now husband (they got engaged the night before we did!) would be moving to Boston so he could go to Harvard law (yep. he's a smart one :)) and I wanted to make sure it wouldn't be too hard for them to fly back down.
(If you'recounting, there went card #3.)
Then there was my "little sister." While not blood related, she is the closest I will ever have to a little sister. L is the one I give advice to, get late night texts to talk from, and pretty much just love dearly. I decided I would put the "introducing J to her parents" and "asking her to be a bridesmaid" into one, and did that promptly a few days later when J and I went to my parents for Christmas. I figured sending a card would be redundant after that!
So all 4 bridesmaids had been asked and all without a cute card, or cookie, or anything else. I might send them all something special for Christmas (right after our anniversary) to thank them again. They were all awesome.
Anyhow, long story short, I saw those super cute cards on Once Wed today and wanted to share what "could have been!" If you'd like more, check it out here (which, you should. They are really really cool!)
Birthday planning
I've been planning for J's birthday and while blogging today, I came across these really really funny cards designed by Old Tom Foolery. Let me just go ahead and warn you though that they contain very dry/sarcastic humor. Then again, that is my favorite kind of humor (well that along with the really corny jokes my dad and husband love to tell!)
All found here
Now if I were you, I'd go look at the Old Tom Foolery site. The cards are hilarious. Some lovely lines to look forward to:
It's our anniversary*
*let's pretend we're shadow people wearing sparkly diamonds like in the commercials.
Mazel Tov*
*That's Hebrew for "hell yeah"
I'm head over heels*
*which just means I'm standing up if you think about it.
Happy Graduation!*
*welcome to the real world sucker!
Enjoy!
really cool things.
Sorry for the late post! I was working on a wedding order this morning and then took a late long lunch with the hubby so I am just now getting to it. Promise, it's all worth it though. Look what I found over on Brooklyn Bride today:
and once again, as an artist, these are some of the coolest escort "cards" ever in my opinion. Granted, might be a pain trying to find your name if they weren't organized in some way...but whatever. The coolness factor of them would be so worth it!
Enjoy!
Napkin Invitations
I am always writing on napkins and when I saw these I couldn't help but think of how clever these invitations are. Would definitely take some patience, but I personally think it'd be worth it. Hope you enjoy!
Candy Invitations
Who wouldn't rsvp yes with this packaging? It's so cute and fresh! I immediately thought of my sister when I saw this one- growing up she was a huge lover of lemonheads!
Wish more people would do this
Maybe it's the artist in me, but how cool is this?? Her husband drew a picture of the two of them for their wedding announcement. I, personally, would love that.

Easter Cards
be mine
I used to be really against valentines day. Not anti-love, just anti-only show it on one day. It just seemed like a really bad excuse for card companies, florists etc. to up their sales in February and to make singles feel like they can't leave their houses. Lately though, I have really gotten into valentines day. I still think it's a commercialized holiday, but I realized that while we should show it everyday, sometimes it's nice to have one particular day set aside just to say I love you.
So that is what I will be doing this valentines day- spreading the love. And not just to J, but to my family and friends as well. How wonderful would it be to get an unexpected valentine in the mail along with all of the junk mail and bills?! (Speaking of which, I'm all for red envelopes- nothing pops like they do!)
I'm thinking I might even bake cookies and take them to the fire station down the street...
On that note, here are some fun valentines I have found over the past few days:
this was read at our wedding, and the more I read it, the more it rings true
