tacky christmas surprise stock the bar party

This past weekend J. and I threw a surprise stock the bar party for two of our friends C and M.  C is one of my oldest friends from home and has always been an amazing friend (and from day one M. accepted us into his world and treated us like old friends) so when we started bouncing around the idea of throwing them a party I couldn't wait.  To be honest, I'm surprised I could keep the secret from them for as long as I did. Of course, I did talk to her soon to be sister in law- who helped get the word out- and her mom...and all of my family.... so yea, I guess I didn't keep my mouth shut. I just kept it shut towards her. I'm counting that as an accomplishment. Anyhow. Here are a few photos from the day. A huge thanks for everyone playing along, filling their bar, and dealing with me taking photos all.day.long as well as one to my husband for dealing with me as I planned this.

Oh! And an even bigger thanks to C. and M. for not kicking us out of their house when we surprised them at 10.45a. Those two are troopers I tell you.

happy (halloween) weekend

I've been swamped this week (the good kind of busy though) and haven't gotten a chance to share the cool things I've seen around the web for Halloween. Given that Halloween is THIS weekend, I figured I better do it now (or forever hold my peace.) And even though it's actually on Sunday*, we'll be celebrating Saturday after the UGA vs. Florida game. Hope you all have fun this weekend!

and even though I am a total wimp and can't handle anything remotely scary so I would NEVER be caught dead in a haunted house, if you are up for that sort of thing, check out the top 10 haunted houses here.

* Visiting two of our friends this past weekend, J. and I saw a sign stating that trick-or-treating in the neighborhood would take place Sunday, October 31st between 6:30p-8p. The huge (boring) orange sign made me long for the days when specific times weren't necessary. People just knew that you started as soon as it was dark enough for your awesome flashlights/lanterns to be useful and stopped once the porch lights went off. Very similar to how balloons on a mailbox=party; no porch light=no candy. Not to mention, just having a sign telling me exactly when I could pester people for Kit Kats would simply make me want to trick or treat until 8:01p. You know, because I'm such a rebel and all.

photo catch up

Hi everyone! It’s been a little while since I’ve posted so I thought before the weekend starts, I’d share a few photos from the past few days.

sneak peek of a custom order I’m working on right now. I love how these are coming together and I can’t wait for my clients to see them all together.

this is from the Braves last game of the post season and Bobby’s last game before retirement. Even though we lost, the atmosphere was pretty amazing and it was really touching to be a part of history.

my friend L and I have decided to take up sewing. Though our sewing dates are more to catch up and gossip together, we are slowly but surely learning. Case in point? We learned how to use the automatic bobber thing today (yes very technical, I know.) Up until now I’ve just been winding it by hand- mostly because I really don’t like reading directions. Luckily, even though she doesn’t like them either, L. actually did read the directions and figured out how to do it.

have you read Joy and Meg’s book, Creative Inc. yet? If you’re in the freelance/creative world, it’s a must read! It has great advice, is easy (and quick) to read, and is full of useful real world advice. I loved reading all of the interviews and hearing other people’s stories and perspectives. Great work, ladies! I hope the book tour went well!

The weather is also finally starting to cool down, so I’ve started bringing out some of my favorite fall recipes like chocolate chip banana bread, apple bread, and this tasty little creation. Seriously, chili on a biscuit? Yes, please.

I also dying to try this pumpkin spice cake I saw in one of my magazines and maybe even make caramel apples. Which reminds me, I kind of want to go apple picking.

Have I mentioned how much I love fall?

I cried through almost all of this so if you're not alone, you might want to wait until you are before you watch this one. It's just so beautiful. Heartbreakingly beautiful. (And says pretty much everything I feel towards my husband.) I wish that love for everyone. Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend you all.

happy birthday!

what an amazing birthday invitation! I love the candle and the simple elegance. via ritzy bee

Today is my wonderful husband's birthday! So, in order to give him my full attention and celebrate his day to the fullest, I'm signing off for the day. Hope everyone has a great Thursday!

P.S. Today is also one of my close friends birthdays! Happy birthday L!!

I'm back!

Yep, it’s been about 20ish days since my last post, but I am officially back. I took a “vacation” from blogging in order to get inspired, spend some quality time with my husband (who was on summer vacation from his doctorate program) my friends and my family, and finally to tackle some on going work projects that I really needed to focus on. But now, with school back in session and fall fashions gracing the runways it was time for me to get back to updating the blog regularly with work projects and all the things that inspire me- and hopefully you as well! Before we jump into all of that though, I thought I’d give you a quick photo recap of the summer. Hope you enjoy!

I would have photos of us kayaking (which happened at least once a week this summer), but I never really trust myself when it comes to bringing my camera on board! See you all tomorrow!

Picnic in the Park

Last Friday night, ten of us got together and ate dinner together in Piedmont park. You already saw my picnic tote and the invitations, but I thought I would share a photo from the picnic itself. It was such a great time! I don't think any of us (esp the boys) expected to stay as long as we did, but before we knew it all of the food had disappeared, sunlight was replaced by the glow of street lights and it was nearing midnight! Such a wonderful time and I can't wait to do it again. Do you all have any new summer traditions?

Oh and did I mention the cupcakes? I whipped up some homemade Swiss Buttercream Icing and although I may be a little biased, they were the best cupcakes ever. I don't think any of us can ever go back to store bought icing again!

verde

If you happen to be in Atlanta tonight and would like to indulge in organic wines from Bonterra Wine, local Sweetwater beer, and tasty bites from Affairs to Remember- a local zero-waste caterer- then you should definitely come to Verde tonight. Although online reservations are closed, I think there are a limited number of tickets available at the door, so if you'd like to party with Generation Green make sure you get there early. It's sure to be a blast! And how do I know this? Well not to be biased or anything, but my sister is one of the hosts and she throws a mean party.

Find out more at the Georgia Conservatory site here or over at my sister's blog here.

See you tonight!

Awards for the everyday

I love this idea! Pretty sure my husband would make fun of me, but I'd be alright with that. Plus, I know he'd secretly love it.

On a side note, yesterday I spent 7 hours "spring cleaning." I have never seen the baseboards so clean! Of course, then I realized I spent 7 hours cleaning, and to catch up worked until 2am. Good thing I'm a night owl! Hope everyone is having a lovely week so far- be back tomorrow!
