Craving: Tibor Kalman Umbrella

Found on Apt 34 from MoMA

Although it apparently doesn't really rain much in Colorado, (unlike Georgia where it rains all. the. time. including right now*) but that doesn't stop me from wanting this super cute umbrella from the MoMA store. I saw it over on Erin's blog and it's been on my mind ever since. How nice would it be to look up and see a beautiful sunny sky when everything around you is actually dreary and wet? It'd be like the opposite of having a rain cloud follow you around.

*This post was written previously so it may actually be raining as you read this. Or it may be beautiful.

Craving: Silver Tea Kettle

via sur la table

I don't drink coffee (I know, I know. It's weird to most of you) but I do love tea. Actually, I love a few specific teas- and they have to be hot. That's right, I was born and raised in the South and I can't stand cold sweet tea. Seriously, it tastes like dirt to me.

But I digress.

Sick of being the out cast when everyone was relaxing with their hot cup of joe, I started trying teas and finally fell in love with a chamomile, honey, blend of some sort. Between my tea drinking and my husbands love of coffee (which he makes using a french press) our tea kettle has seen way better days and is up for a replacement. I couldn't find one I liked that wasn't less than $150 (surprise) until this one. I love the simplicity of it, that it's silver, that it has a large top, and that it doesn't rust. All pretty good things, right?

Maybe I'll pick one up after we move.

Craving: Halona Glass

via Halona Glass

Our new place has amazing windows with deep sills and I can't help but think how beautiful a few of these plant toppers or prisms would be when the sun hit them. I remember giving a crystal heart to my mom (I think it was for my mom, but it may have been to both of my parents) when I was young and loved watching the rainbows dance across the walls whenever light poured through it.

Do any of you own one or can attest to how beautiful these are in real life?

(And on an unrelated note, happy birthday to my friend, Mel. I hope it's a wonderful one!)

craving: Overdyed Kilim Rug

via onekingslane

Now that we officially have our place (can everyone hear that sigh of relief? Because we are STOKED and feel like huge weight has been lifted) I'm already jumping into decor and planning things out in my head. And while buying a completely different rug yesterday (after weeks of looking for "the one" that both J and I loved), I stumbled across this little jewel and fell in love. Bold, quirky, and traditional at the same time.

If only it was larger, I may have talked myself into it. Good thing it wasn't though because there is no way I can justify purchasing another rug when we have a lot of other things to collect!

Craving: Temporary Tats

via Tattly

For the most part, I'm not a big tattoo fan. And not because I don't think they can be beautiful (they absolutely can) or because the can't be meaningful (one of my college roommates had one in memory of his mom who died the year before) or even because I'm pretty sure my dad would ground me if I got one (yes, I'm aware I'm married, no longer live at home, etc. etc. but still) but mostly it's because there are just SO MANY horribly done, meaningless, tattoos out there that take away from the beauty of the good ones. (Frat tat anyone?)

Of course, the artist in me doesn't always agree with my logical side and I find myself drawing on my wrist or up my arm- only to wash it off minutes or hours later depending on my mood. But see, that's the thing. I ALWAYS end up wanting to wash it off. So when Tattly was born? I knew I'd be a fan. Amazing designs by amazing artists and they are temporary? Jackpot.

And come on, who doesn't want a little more love in their lives?

Craving: moody baubles

Clockwise from top: rings by- Martin Katz, Tamsen Z, Kimberly McDonald, and David Yurman- photographed for W Magazine

How beautiful are these rings? They look like mini planets for your fingers. Or like a mood ring done right...

And not only do I love the look of these (the Kimberly McDonald is my fave in case anyone wants to pick one up for me,) but I absolutely adore that they were styled with an insect. I illustrated a lot of insects in college (scientific illustration major, what what) and I was always fascinated by how colorful some of them were. This captures that opalescent beauty perfectly.
