weekend links

weekend links: photos from the beach

I didn't really spend a lot of time on the internet this week (yay vacation!) so instead of weekend links I thought I'd share some photos from the week. It was so nice to just lay on the beach, relax with a good book (or two,) and spend some quality time with J (and his family.)

I love how modern the lifeguard stands are on the beach

There was a really cool abandoned church in town. Couldn't resist taking a few photos after a thunderstorm.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Weekend Links (Feb 28- Mar 4)

I'm planning on a lot of this action. Photo via mackin ink blog

This week has been a whirlwind of emotions and activity, but this upcoming week is going to be glorious. That's right, glorious. It's J's spring break so I'm closing up the studio and we're taking a much needed vacation to the beach. The laundry is done, the house is clean (I like coming home to a clean house), the house sitter is booked and all I have left to do is wrap up a few loose ends order wise, pack my suitcase and make chocolate chip cookies (because you can't take a road trip without chocolate chip cookies.) I'm so excited I can barely type this. Anyhow, let's get to some of the cool stuff I've seen around the web.

I'm all for making things from scratch. Pesto, marinara, cookies, bread, pasta, pizza... to me it just tastes better. Not to mention I can actually pronounce what's in my food which is always a plus. Now I have another item to add to my list of "things I make from scratch" (which depending on how much time I have is sometimes lovingly referred to as "items that may have been easier to buy.") Guess who is going to try and make their own butter?!  Yep, me. With the help of this.

Of course, making things from hand always makes me think of this, which I find hilarious. And while you're at it, go ahead and procrastinate a little more and read this one, this one, and this one. Ironically- and probably why I think these are so funny-  I do love Arrested Development, I've tried to convince J. to pick strawberries for going on 4 years now, I will wear a jacket with shorts (still don't get uggs and shorts though) and I do love a good sandwich.

Now that I have hopefully made you smile, on to a new topic. It's almost spring and as I have mentioned, I'm being sucked into the trap of needing spring clothes right now. So to keep myself from actually buying things I don't really need, I've taken to just browsing online stores. And while I might still have a problem with Forever 21 ripping off indie designers (no judgments for being on the site please,) I definitely don't have a problem with them collaborating with designers.

Oh and speaking of expensive sandwiches and things I want but might not need (this is debatable of course) I could definitely live here. Doesn't hurt that it's practically next door to the Eiffel Tower.

What I do need though is this vacation, so I'm off to pack. Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Have a colorful weekend!

has nothing to do with the post, but it was too cute to pass up. via mackin ink's blog

I woke up yesterday all excited that it was Friday, only to have J. say "sweetie, you know it's Thursday, right?" Well now I do. So yea, I've been waiting for Friday all week long. (and now it's here!) Which means weekend links of course.

I was looking through Design*Sponge when this thread installation by Gabriel Dawe caught my eye. How amazing is this? I would love to see it in person!

Speaking of colors, this hotel is flooded with them. (Did you see the pool?!)

Maybe you are more of a pastels person. If so, take a look at this. (Yep. Those are forks!)

Of course, an all white space is just as beautiful to me.

Happy weekend everyone!

weekend links (feb 14-18)

via ffffound

I'm crossing my fingers that the weatherman isn't lying and it really will be in the 70's and beautiful this weekend. I need some sunshine in my life! (The cold doesn't bother me nearly as much as gray rainy days.) Plus- let's be honest here- I really want to wear these new (amazing) shoes I have and they are definitely more for a bright bright bright bright sun shiny day. (yep, that was me singing to you. I may have even danced a little.)

Anyhow. On to the links:

My grandparents had a map where they put a pin into every place they ever visited together and I remember thinking how great of an idea that was. Apparently, I'm not alone. Isn't this map beautiful?

I've mentioned that I want to learn Italian (I have the formalities down. kind of.) but after listening to this beautiful song, I'm going to go ahead and add French to the list.

What if ad agencies planned children birthday parties? (This cracked me up.)

The love doesn't have to stop with Valentine's Day. Save lipstick and time and just pick up one of these.

This reception was on a tennis court?! Be.a.u.tiful.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Wishing you a romantic weekend

Valentine's Day is just around the corner so for me these past few days have been spent finishing up J's present, planning our dinner (I'm a "dress up, stay in, and have a romantic dinner for two by the fire" type of girl when it comes to Valentine's Day) and making (incredibly unnecessary but incredibly awesome) decorations. Therefore, it makes sense that this week's links are love related. Hope you enjoy!

Not a lover of Valentine's Day? Check out the Love Stinks channel on Pandora. Even if you love love, I promise it's worth it. I've been rocking out to it for the past 2 days. Some songs to look forward to? Ain't No Sunshine and Jessie's Girl. (You can thank me later.)

Given it's the holiday of all things love, I had to include a wedding. Please scroll down and take a look at this couple's ceremony site (8 down.) Isn't that the most perfect tree ever? (wedding seemed pretty awesome as well!)

Valentine's Day or not, I would love to lounge around in this. (via design crush)

Want to get yourself a Valentine's Day gift? If you have $100K burning a hole in your pocket, you should get this. (And then call me so we can be best friends and fly around the lake.)

We all know that Paris is one of the most romantic cities in the world, but not all of us can just jet set there for the weekend. The next best thing? Eating like you're there.

And while we're talking about food and Paris (completely un-Valentine's Day related, but Jordan and her family just moved to Paris so I'm tying it in anyways)...we'll be in San Francisco this summer so I definitely bookmarked her suggestions on where to eat.

And of course I couldn't end this roundup without some dessert. What an amazingly luxe alternative to the everyday cupcake.

Have a wonderful weekend!

“Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you”.- Frank Lloyd Wright. Well said Mr. Wright, well said.

With Valentine's Day coming up, I've been looking for new things to try for dessert. Maybe a surprise heart cake?

Or maybe I'll go for something more decadent. I think even King Midas could go for this.

Martha, before the empire.

wow. Now THAT is a chandelier.

Hello readers, meet Bri. She's a doll (with an incredibly impressive portfolio.)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

have a lovely weekend!

It's not you, it's me.

Measure your days in love.

Two beautiful magazines came out this week: Rue (extra points for anyone who can tell me why I'm especially stoked about issue 3. hint hint page 52 and 264) and Matchbook Mag. Definitely curl up with your laptop this weekend and dive into these!

Be brilliant at the basics of business

Such a beautiful wedding. But what really sold me? They gave out mini loaves of bread as favors (and this girl loves fresh bread.)

I don't think this should be reserved for bridal wear, it's just so pretty! (As in ban.do's new site which was a collaboration with this lovely lady)

Agreed. Clementines are awesome.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend! Do you all have any big (or little) plans? I'm having a girls night tonight, hoping to have a chance to see Our Labor of Love's Kendrick and David's show sometime over the weekend (see more about that here, and then who knows. (Maybe we'll even get around to watching Inception so we'll know what all of the fuss is about!) See you Monday!

apparently Atlanta may see more snow flurries this weekend. Let's see if our 6 snow plows can keep up! via here

this sure beats having an old cracking who knows where it's been bar of soap lying around.

I feel like I get lost here a lot... well if facebook was swapped out for the blogosphere.

I can get a candle that smells like woodsmoke, saddle leather and honey?! Awesome.

Holy cow. Or Buck. Now that's a statement ring.

Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Typeface

I already loved Jeff Bridges (Seriously, the dude is mentioned at least once a week in our home,) but his hand written site makes me love him that much more.

You're pretty. I like you.

Have a great weekend everyone! If you're in Atlanta and looking for something to do, Todd Selby is having a show as is one of my dear friends Augusta (at Studioplex.)

happy (birthday) weekend!

Tomorrow is my birthday (yay!) and I was a little distracted with early celebrations and completely forgot to upload yesterday's post. Sorry! I hope you all will forgive me and accept this belated one. With Valentine's right around the corner, why not mix some love into your everyday with this?

Glitter and stars. Perfect combo.

Atlanta is (finally) thawing out, but for the past few days I've felt like this was going to be my new career. (beautiful photos, right?)

Speaking of snow... I think I need one of these. Custom igloo here I come!

And finally, still unsure about what to get me for my birthday? Here you go. (You're welcome.)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
