invitations

from the studio: sonja and blake

It's been too long since my last "from the studio" so today I thought I'd share my latest custom invitation!

A little back story:

When Sonja first emailed me, she knew she wanted a custom handwritten invitation, but wasn't 100% sure what she wanted those invitations to look like. She and Blake are both outdoorsy and very active (they got engaged on top of Mt. Rainer!) so we both knew their invitations had to have a natural vibe- wild, but still elegant. After we talked colors and wording, Sonja told me that their venue is covered in California poppies and Indian paintbrush blooms and we both knew right away that one, or both, of those had to be incorporated. I drew up a few different options, but in the end we all fell in love with this one! Having the viewpoint from slightly below makes the guests feel as though they are walking through a poppy field, while the bright orange blooms pop against the hand penned black ink. I love how these came together! And with each one just slightly different from the next, they really do look like a field of poppies when seen together.

Hope you enjoy!

I wanted to share a painting I finished just a few days ago for a friend who recently had a baby. (Due to all of the rain in Atlanta I held off mailing it, but it's all wrapped up and ready to ship out today!)

If you read her blog, you already know about her new daughter, but if not you really have to go look at the beautiful pictures of the two of them! E. was there to provide comfort and insight when J got hurt (her own husband had been in an accident earlier in the year) and I always wanted to be able to thank her with something besides an email. So...right before baby Sloane was born I decided to give her a painting- both as a thank you and a congrats! It's inspired by the giant cactus zinnia she grew last spring, and while it's different from a lot of my work, I really enjoy how it turned out! Hopefully she will too! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!!

Sarah+Alan: The Invitations

I've mentioned the "lovely bride from Australia" I've been working with, but had yet to share the invitation suite I made for her with y'all because I wanted her to see them first. Well they arrived yesterday in the mail and right after opening them I received the sweetest email from Sarah:

"I just picked up the invitations from the post office and they are officially AMAZING! They are even more beautiful than I had imagined them to be. The only problem with doing this all over the internet is that I can't see you and give you a very big hug. I am so glad you suggested the black envelopes..they look so cool. Thank you x 100000000. Can't stop smiling."

Working with wonderful people like Sarah, and knowing I made something so special for one of the most important days in her life makes me love my job so much. I couldn't stop smiling either knowing how much she loved them!

Want to see more of what was in the big cardboard box she picked up? Here you go!

Sneak Peak

via me

I'm working on a wedding order right now for a lovely Australian bride so I am a little busy and haven't been able to make a ton of boards lately. I'm so sorry! But since everyone has been so patient, I thought I would give you a sneak peek into what I've been working on lately. Promise photographs of the finished product are just days away!
