So after 6 weeks on the road, I'm in the mood to get really dressed up. And this dress? Well it's stunning. Who's up for a black tie kind of night?

Yea, yea, I know. I am on a vacation RIGHT now, but even so I saw this photo and immediately mentally started planning our trip to the Loy Kratong Floating Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Isn't this breathtaking?

Honestly, I just kind of think I should have one of these. I mean, they are everywhere in the design world.
Can't blame them though- it's a beautiful tree.

Packing for a trip like ours- where it's not a matter of days, but weeks- you have to get super creative because space is really limited. (Throw in the fact that our stuff includes two complete different types of clothes, camping equipment, food, etc. and it gets even that much more complicated.) Every square inch is planned and used to it's greatest capacity- socks are stuffed in boots, pots nest within themselves, etc. etc. So when I saw this, I was instantly draw to it's simplicity and ease of use. Of course the kit isn't really practical for a long trip (it's in a glass tube and only has 15 matches) but even so, I can't help but crave it for it's beautiful and compact design.

I've loved army jackets for a really long time now, but never could find one that either a) didn't look like I stole my Dad's (i.e. was flattering for a petite lady) or b) wasn't outrageously priced. I mean, it's canvas people. It shouldn't cost $500.
And then I found this one. It's cut appropriately, looks light enough to layer, and the best part? It's $28. I might just have to snatch this one up.
A new (half pound of) caramel every month? Yes, please. My birthday is in January in case anyone is planning early...

I have a confession- I'm not much of a pie person*. Feed me a tart, a cobbler, a crumb cake, a pastry...pretty much anything except a pie. Don't get me wrong- I love the process, the smells, and the whole idea of fresh fruit pies (and let's be honest- my heart starts palpitating the moment I see beautiful lattice work.) but the problem is that I normally find myself either overwhelmed with the gooey sweetness or disappointed in the crust to filling ratio (more crust people, always more crust.)
Even so, I still love this pie plate. It reminds me of picking out glazes in ceramics class- clay squares covered with little swatches of fired glaze and their corresponding number or name.
*Despite not loving pie, I will always try an apple pie. Something about them calls to me and I continuously make it my fall/winter mission to find the perfect apple pie. The slice with just enough buttery crust, apples with the perfect barely there crunch, and of course just the right balance of cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg. I haven't found it yet, but I will.
