happy (memorial day) weekend!

photograph via will adler

This weekend is one of my best friend's weddings and I am so excited we get to celebrate with her and her new husband! (I'm still incredibly honored she asked me to stand by her side.) Seeing two people that mean so much to us promise to love and support each other for the rest of their lives makes my heart smile. It's such a momentous, touching, and love filled occasion and I can't wait to be there. (I've already warned her I may tear up.)

Now on to the links:

I need this ring.

Have you seen these photos? So amazing.

Normally I steer clear from jello shots (I don't think you should have to chew your drink) but these have me giving them a second look.

These are CARDBOARD. (I know!)

I think a giant balloon could make any one's day.

I love NYC, but this cracked me up.

And speaking of weddings, someone propose with this. gorgeous!

Hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

*I also wanted to say a big thank you for everyone who has sent their kind words to me about my grandmother. They mean the world to me and I really appreciate them (and you all.)

Happy (Birthday) weekend!

beautiful peonies via oh happy day

This week has been crazy busy, so sorry for the lack of blog posts, BUT I wanted to make sure to get on today and wish my amazing Mom a happy birthday. So... Happy Birthday Mom! I love you!

As for everyone else, I hope you all have an amazing weekend. And if you are attending a wedding, make sure your card reads nothing like these. (Talk about passive aggressive...)

See you all on Monday!

Have a great weekend!

one of the views from our hike via my personal collection

We took an impromptu camping trip Wednesday night, which was wonderful, except that we're apparently not too great at "impromptu" things. Because we didn't really plan much at all, we both ended up forgetting a lot of things that were kind of important. Of course, it did make for some hilarious moments (such as me combing my wet hair with a plastic fork little mermaid style because I forgot a brush, laughing like lunatics while we tried to come up with makeshift pillows since we forgot those too, and oh yea, when it came time to make dinner we realized we forgot the part that connects the gas to our stove so we literally had to cook our dinner over the open fire.)

It was awesome. (Seriously.)

Anyhow, because of that mini vacation, I'm behind on my blog reading so this weeks links are going to be a little shorter than normal. Hope you understand.

I think it'd be fun to stay in one of these bubble houses.

This look book has me dreaming of lazy days filled with long naps, picnics, and easy reads.

For posing with an awesome paper moon, that one lady doesn't look as happy as I think I would be.

Amazing DIY tree lamp

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Any big plans?

happy (mothers day) weekend!

my mom and me in Savannah a few years back

It's Mothers Day weekend and luckily I actually get to see my mom this weekend! Well not just me. All 3 (including J in that one) of her kids get to celebrate with her thanks to my awesome sister making brunch reservations. What about you all? Any big plans?

For all those new moms out there, here's a book that gets to the point.

My mom loves crème brûlée (how can you not?) so I'm pretty sure she would love this french toast.

Speaking of sweet things, how beautiful is this layered cake?

Having a hard day? Carry one of these around and always get a dose of comfort

I know it's a brooch, but given how much I love art deco pieces, I would love to see this made into a hair piece.

I know it would be (really) far away, but photos like this make me want to move to Paris. It's still one of my favorite cities!

I'm a bourbon girl so this tasting from Garden & Gun is right up my alley.

I will never turn down the opportunity to be awoken with food. Esp if that food is bacon. I will NEVER turn away bacon. Because I love breakfast in bed, I'll go ahead and assume most women like it as well and therefore it is a great Mothers Day idea. Unfortunately if there is anything I remember about Mothers Day growing up, is that breakfast in bed didn't always work with my mom. Mostly because she ALWAYS was awake before me. And not only would she wake up first, she would ALREADY have breakfast ready by the time I dragged my lazy self into the kitchen. (What can I say, my mom rocks and she just happens to know how much I love bacon.) If you happen to be able to beat your mom's alarm clock I think this is a super sweet idea.

And on that note, I'm off to wrap my mom's present. Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

happy (royal) weekend!

via here

I didn't wake up to watch the royal wedding, I have looked at a few recaps and just have to comment on how absolutely beautiful Kate looked. (And how cute was it that William blushed and she said "wow" when she saw the crowd? Precious. Our wedding was surreal enough for me- I can't even imagine how surreal everything must feel to the two of them.)

Anyhow, on the topic of weddings my best's bachelorette party is this weekend so I'm going to be checking out shortly to wrap up making snacks, making her veil thingy, etc. We'll be revisiting our old (college) stomping grounds so this will be a fun time!

Until Monday, here are some links to keep you busy. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

I love seeing other creative's studio spaces

Sometime in my life I want to visit the tulip fields in Holland

It would be hard to repair, but what a stunning floor!

What if you lived in Ikea?

And if you were like me and slept through the royal wedding, don't fret. Here are just two of the hundreds of places to look at the beautiful photos: here and here

have a wonderful (Easter) weekend!

photo by Chelsea Fuss via frolic

This week has been a tough one so I for one am thrilled today is Friday! We have a formal event tonight so I finally have a chance to wear an amazing 70's dress of my grandmother's* and then fingers crossed that the rest of the weekend will be incredibly relaxing. Speaking of the weekend, it's Easter weekend and the blog-o-sphere has been filled with amazing ideas and crafts. Since we won't be able to be with either set of our parents this weekend, we've been tossing around the idea of having people over for a casual Sunday lunch (with ham! you have to have ham on Easter.) We'll see how the weekend goes, but if we end up doing this I may have to create a few of these ideas.

Who says egg hunts are just for kids? Make it a party with cereal and glitter. I love this idea!

According to my sister, the farmer's market is apparently out of white eggs as people get ready for egg hunts. Given that we're not hard boiled egg fans anyhow, these are a perfect substitute.

With this, all of your eggs could be golden- no Veruca Salt tantrum necessary.

I need to make these- Hot Cross Buns. (now I have the recorder song stuck in my head, but I only know "hot cross buns, hot cross buns" so the rest is made up of humming.)

I remember reading a book about painting eggs when I was younger, but can't remember the name. Either way, these remind me of that book. Aren't they gorgeous?

Wedding season is upon us. Someone please make these favors

And just something good to read- 50 ways to cope with stress

Have a wonderful Easter weekend everyone! I hope it's relaxing, fun, and filled with sunshine and good memories!

*And again, thank you for your prayers and kind thoughts for my grandmother. As of now, she is in a rehab center recovering and trying to get her strength back. I'll keep you all updated.

Happy weekend!

via an apple a day

It's tax day so I hope everyone has filed their returns- or at least filed an extension- and will be receiving back some of the money you paid into the system this past year. (If you owe money, I'm sorry. That's never a fun check to write.)

And now let's see if I can get your mind off of receipts, 1040's, etc.

For all of the ladies geeking out over the royal wedding, here's a little something for you. (and it's waay better than commemorative painted stemware, tea towels, etc.)

Music fans, this is one of THE COOLEST invitations I have ever seen.

Touch fingers with God (artistically at least)

These bicycle pants are so much more attractive than their spandex neon colored counterparts.

Twinkle lights are so magical to me.

Filing this away for Valentine's Day. Or our anniversary...

Thanks to everyone for reading! Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

have a fantastic weekend (weekend links: april 4-8th)

I love that the dogwoods are finally blooming. What a beautiful tree! photo via Sacramento street

The weather has been beautiful these past few days and I for one am so happy that spring is finally here! With how much we've already started soaking it all in- picnicking, kayaking, hiking... you'd think we haven't been able to be outside in months. (Which I guess is technically true- Georgia isn't known for beautiful winters.)

But on to the links.

I wish this bowl would have been around before I gave up trying to drink milk. It always annoyed me how soggy the last few bites of cereal would get...

Speaking of cool concepts, I would love to have a pair of these chairs. It would sure make packing for camping trips easier!

I've always had a soft spot for the old logo- reminds me of elementary school, computer labs, and playing the original Oregon Trail. (Remember that? Before "real" graphics existed?)

And lastly, getting back to the topic of spring, how beautiful are these flowers? Would you believe me if I told you that they were paper? Because they are. (I know! What an amazing talent.)

Have a fantastic weekend!

Sorry I don't have any links to share today, but I am JUST now getting to sit down at my computer. Even so, I wanted to wish everyone a happy weekend. I hope it's a great  one and that everyone gets to relax and unwind with people they love. See everyone on Monday!

Happy Friday! (weekend links)

hilarious work by Aled Lewis (from his Toy Stories series.) Found here

Yesterday (after an already long "can't believe it's only Thursday" kind of week) J and I decided to play hooky and take a day off. We started with an amazing breakfast and then headed off to the Auto Show where J. happily walked around like a kid on Christmas looking at, getting in, and talking about the cars he loved (and joking about those we didn't love.) It was a perfect leisurely day (complete with the news that J's rotation schedule was fixed and finalized!, movie watching, magazine reading, and bacon wrapped green beans.) And now it's time to get some work done before planning a fun weekend. To hold us over, I thought I'd share things I've found  to be interesting, beautiful, and/or fun from around the web. Enjoy!

This beautiful Quill clutch reminds me so much of this sunprint cake. (And I love them both!)

J doesn't like heights (rarely does that stop him from anything though) but I'm still not sure I could get him to go for this dinner in the sky. Me on the other hand- well I would LOVE it.

Looking for a new book? Chronicle Books is having it's 30% off sale! (I loved Creative Inc.) Just enter SPRING11 at checkout.

I think I need this bracelet. Speaking of things I need let's add this amazing dress as well.

I organize my books by color (does this really surprise anyone?) but I'd be more than happy if someone wanted to come wrap them in paper for me.

Happy weekend everyone! Hope it's a lovely one.

Weekend Links: Ways to help Japan

Instead of my normal, "hey how cool are these?" links, in light of the recent devastation Japan has experienced, I wanted instead to share unique ways to help helping.

My friend Neil Summerour developed SOGO Japan in order to give money directly to Japanese charities as opposed to outside sources. As Neil put it, “Money will not go to outside organizations looking in, but rather we will put it in the hands of the people who were there first, know the land, know the people and their actual needs.” $5 and $10 donations are appreciated, but if you donate $30 or $50 you'll also receive a copy of Neil's Angel Script Font.

Photographer Tex Jernigan took this photo as part of a collaborative series with Jared Wilson. The two of them will be installing large flags across the world beginning today, and you can purchase this print for $25. All proceeds go to the American Red Cross to help Japan.

Online retailer Alibaba is providing certain items to be purchased AT COST for those in need. (Alibaba will ship them to Japan free of cost to those in need.) Items include, tents, sleeping bags, blankets, flashlights, rain jackets, etc. Just make sure to put “Japan Earthquake Relief” as the address at checkout.

Designed by Max Erdenberger and printed by Steve Denekas and Walker Cahall, this poster is given to all who donate $25 to the Red Cross through W+K Studio's site.

This copper necklace was created by the father and daughter team wsake to represent the rising sun of Japan. 75% of the proceeds go to the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief through the Japan Red Cross Society and the remaining 25% covers the production cost of the necklace.

Signalnoise is selling this print, of the rising sun "cracking," for $30. All proceeds will go to Japanese Disaster Relief.

All proceeds from this print (designed by Rob Dobi) will go to disaster relief as well.

yokomono studio is donating 100% of the proceeds from their Sankaku Sachets sales.

All proceeds from Daniel Freytag's print "Japan" will go to the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Relief.

Bloggers around the world wanted to help too. Today is Bloggers Day of Silence. Hundreds of bloggers will not post, tweet, etc. today as a sign of respect for all of those affected by the disasters. Set up by UtterlyEngaged and Ever Ours, any donations received at www.forjapanwithlove.com will go to purchase shelter boxes for those in need. For more information, please click on the link. (I received the memo a little late so I figured I'd do the next best thing and share ways to help.)

And on a happier note, did you hear about the 4 month old who was found under debris and delivered back to her parents? What about the man who was rescued 10 miles out in the sea? With so much sadness around, I always find it amazing and comforting to hear of a few miracles.

Another thing I'd like to bring attention to is the overall character of the Japanese. People are searching through debris where grocery stores once stood for water etc. and when anyone finds it, if there happens to be an elderly citizen around, the "discoverer" always gives the water to the elderly first and only then goes back to search for themselves. People are waiting in line for aid as opposed to committing crimes and looting; people are taking care of each other... it's just amazing to see after the horrendous disasters they've faced that they are still respectful, courteous, and grateful. You can't control what happens, but you can control how you react. Seeing how we reacted after Katrina, I think we all should take a lesson in humanity from the Japanese and do whatever we can to help rebuild their nation.

And as always (said best at Apartment Therapy) If you're unsure whether to donate to an organization, we recommend checking their standing and credentials via charity research organizations, such as GiveWell and Charity Navigator. File any fraud complaints with the Internet Crime Complaint Center. Known as IC3, the Center is a partnership of the FBI, National White Collar Crime Center and Bureau of Justice Assistance. Also, call the National Center for Disaster Fraud at 1-866-720-5721 to report the fraud.
