Cool Things

Happy Weekend!

hahaha via here

I've been super busy this week (which is awesome) and have some really exciting news to share over the next few weeks, but until then I thought I'd share a few links I've found from around the web.

J. and I got engaged in the rain, so this engagement session from Paul Von Rieter (via Greylikesweddings) definitely pulled a heart string.

Speaking of engagements, I love this one. He proposed in a fort!

This dress rocks.

I usually paint my own calendars or refer to my (wonderful gold) planner when my days are running together or I need to remember something, but I couldn't help and smile when I saw this letterpress calendar by brown parcel press. Just look at March. There are chickens. And eggs. Perfection!

Oh the lost art of the mix tape. nothing said love like 12 perfectly selected and copied songs. (props if you ever had a radio dedication.)

I want this bike.

Speaking of things I'd like to have, let's throw these on the table as well. How beautiful are those?!

Happy weekend everyone!

Craving: Dog Blue Prints

via uncommon goods

How cool are these?! I don't really have any wall space left (or $200 just sitting around asking to be spent on something I really don't need) but that doesn't stop me from randomly looking at these and envisioning it somewhere in our future home.

You know, the one we don't own... in a city we don't live in yet hahaha

Anyhow, speaking of labs, our poor little baby is on antibiotics right now and spending most of her days sleeping and drinking water. I hate seeing her sick (and really, not used to it. She's always been really really healthy) but was super proud of how she acted when we took her to the vet. So sweet and such a trooper. (May have been the 20+ treats the tech fed her. Not really on her diet, but whatever. I eat junk when I don't feel well too so no judgment here.)

**And wow. I just reread all of that and realized I've become one of those people. You know, the people who have conversations about their dogs. I always made fun of those people. Guess that's karma for ya. With all that said though, I will not stop making cat lady jokes. I am allergic to cats so I'm not worried about becoming one of those. As for a dog lady... well that doesn't seem so bad to me. Hence the desire for  a dog blue print poster.

Saw this installation over on A Cup of Jo. Isn't this cool? I think there is something wonderfully innocent in being able to view the world like this- as though bumps and curves were made by simply pinching the land. That mountains were just gathered piles of rock; schmooshed together into something breathtaking and beautiful.

You know, instead of simply saying it's because of glaciers and plates shifting.

This is also why I answer "clouds" whenever my husband wonders what is being produced when we pass factory smokestacks. Sounds better than " a lot of pollution."

wish list

Christmas is just around the corner and I figured it’s about time for me to create my wish list. Well that and my mom keeps asking me to tell her what I’d like and since there’s no time like the present I decided to get to it. (Like that pun? Yep. Surprisingly unintentional.) The only problem was that as soon as I started trying to write out what I'd like, I drew a blank. There was nothing I could think of that I needed. (and trust me, if I need something I let everyone know. That's probably how I ended up with 3 different strainers last year.) Of course "nothing" doesn't go over well with a family of gift givers so I made myself sit down and think about what I'd love to find under the tree. (Well to be honest, I was stuck waiting in the doctor's office and prevention magazine just wasn't doing anything for me. Either way, I left with a list.)

So here it goes.

Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick in Fabulous (33)

It’s the only lipstick that doesn’t upset my lips (my face is picky and Chanel has yet to fail me. I use their foundation too and it is a.mazing.) It's also the perfect color for my skin tone. I have tried hundreds of different colors and this is the only one that gives just the right amount of color to make me look put together without making me look like I tried too hard.

Hanky Panky low rise thongs

I’m not sure there is anyone who has ever mentioned underwear shopping in front of me that hasn’t heard of these. These are simply the best for everyday wearing, are one size fits all, and go under EVERYTHING without lines. (Because really, nothing ruins an outfit like v.p.l.) Oh! And they come in a rainbow of colors.

Pastry Blender

I really like making desserts and pastries and still don’t know how I’ve made it this long without one of these. This is actually one of the things I "need."

Cole Haan Air Bandon Ballet Flats in Metallic Silver (size 7.5)

Okay, so these aren't super cheap, but Cole Haan's with Nike Air are like pillows on the feet. I would LOVE to have these. (And will probably buy them myself if Santa doesn't bring them first.)

Harper's Bazaar Subscription

Not sure how I have gone so long without reading this one, but a few days ago I decided to pick it up and haven't been able to put it down. Just the right balance of articles, photos, and ads.

Le Pens in Black

I just really like these pens. And you can find them at Michael's.

Krylon Looking Glass Spray Paint

I read this, and now I need this paint in my life. (I have two ceramic birds that would look awesome painted in this.)

So there it goes. That's my list. Of course if anyone is still drawing a blank, I also always love foodie items (olive oil, sauces, real maple syrup? yes please.)  interesting and/or antique jewelry, and flowers. (yes, flowers can definitely be a present. I would love that present. Especially if they aren't red roses because I really don't prefer red roses.)

Happy Wednesday!

manifesto

Found this over on The Bedlam of Beefy and thought today was a perfect day to share it. Not only is it Monday (oh Mondays) but it's also the first of the month which is a perfect day to start anew. Feeling uninspired? Blue? (as in sad. if you are actually blue as in the color get yourself to a doctor. Or if you're kind of digging it, maybe just to Vegas to join the Blue Man Group.)

Anyhow... back to the main point. Read this and take it to heart. And if you're like me and feel like you should read this more than once, well then head over here and print out your own 100% free copy. (everyone likes free things!)

Oh! And did I mention this is the company's manifesto?! I can only guess working for them would be awesome.

the value of a dollar

via here

thanks to design sponge's twitter page for this link!

I love the creativity of this series by Jonathan Blaustein. Each photo shows exactly how much of a particular food item a dollar actually buys in today's market. Wouldn't it be cool to see this done with inflation? Let's take Coca Cola. Just in my (short) lifetime I've seen prices increase from roughly $.20 a can to upwards of a $1.00. I'd love to see how the number of cokes $1 would buy in 1950 compares to today.
