Weddings

Let's hear it for the boy(s)

We hear over and over how to show your 'maids personalities, but what about the groomsmen? How about spicing up their attire?

Let's start with the cufflinks. If you two are buying them as a gift for the guys, shouldn't they be something reflective of them? Here are some ideas to get you started!

Meshing colors

It's rainy here in Atlanta, so instead of the bright "lemonade-ish" one I had planned for today, I thought I'd do a board with darker, richer colors (Did I mention that I'm also really looking forward to fall?) I designed this one as inspiration for a party, but it easily could be turned into a wedding. On that note, keep in mind that everything does not have to match perfectly. Not only is it sometimes overkill, but there is no better way to get a migraine than stressing over whether or not the green ribbon perfectly matches the green dresses, and if those match the green ink on the escort cards etc. etc. Instead just make sure everything flows together and has the same feel. Just like decorating- the mixing and matching of textures, patterns, etc almost always is more beautiful than having everything identical.

Rose, Stone and Cocoa

I love this color combination- it reminds me so much of Paris. I know it's best suited for a fall or winter event, but I couldn't wait anymore to post it! Together these colors create an incredibly romantic and elegant feel that perfectly mesh together modern and traditional decor. I love the idea of a candlelit entrance as well as simple anemone touches in the centerpieces and on the cake. What do you think?

South Beach

I love the feeling of beach weddings but sometimes it's nice to see a reception that doesn't revolve around seashells and sand :) With that in mind, I thought I'd share a board I made a few days back that focuses on a more modern, South Beach feel. I just love how the turquoise pops off of the black and white! Enjoy!

Green and White Wedding

There is something so beautiful and natural about a wedding (or party!) with a green and white palatte. The lush greens provide the perfect balance for the pops of white of the flowers, candles, and of course, the bride! I really really love the floating canopy; it's such a whimsical touch! And if you used this as inspiration for a party rather than a wedding, wouldn't this canopy be fun over a dance floor or buffet? Oh! Or what about flying over the entrance to the party? So many ideas! Enjoy!

Cotton Candy on the Beach

This board was inspired by the cotton candy colors of the beach sky. I love how these colors evoke an airy, relaxed, and beautiful feeling to any event. And aren't those flags lovely? Details like those not only bring a subtle drama, but also make the beach breezes work on your behalf instead of against!

Dance Off

We went canoeing* yesterday with two friends and even though it's been almost 6 months (holy cow!) since our wedding, it still made it's way into conversation. J and I both love listening to our friends favorite parts and knowing that all of our hard work to make it "ours" (and not exactly what Emily Post would deem proper) made everyone have a much more relaxed and fun time.

Anyhow, their favorite moment was of our dad's dancing. Now, J and I both knew that our dads were big dancers-my dad taught me to dance by having me stand on his feet when I was really young and still randomly dances with my mom in the kitchen, and one of the first stories J's dad ever told me was about his ballroom dance class in college where he swears he was the best dancer there :)- but I guess we didn't think about how that would come out at the wedding. Well here's what happened:

my dad on the left, J's on the right

It's lovingly referred to as the "dance off". Both of our dad's broke out with their best Motown dance moves and before we knew it, a circle had formed around the two of them. Needless to say, it's one of our favorite memories of the wedding too :)

*hahaha oh the canoe trip. Let's just say I am used to the agility of a kayak and managed to flip us. Twice. My legs are bruised and there is a cut across my back from trying to grab the canoe (which-half filled with water was heavier than I had expected). Regardless, besides that short moment after the second flip (where I may or may not have broken down into a mini meltdown) the day was a blast!

Now my only wish is that these bruises fade before the wedding this weekend! Anyone else have an eventful weekend??
