Black

craving: black and gold

via pour porter

I took a look at my closet and realized I wear a lot of black (pretty easy to tell since I color coordinate my closet and all.) But then I looked at my jewelry and noticed it's pretty much all gold. Modern, vintage, girly, structural- doesn't matter- it's gold. All that taken into account, I'm convinced I need this bracelet.

Of course, as I've mentioned I have tiny wrists so this would actually be way too big, but I'm going to disregard that fact right now.

There is something so incredibly retro and sweet about this shade of blue. Like if I looked outside I'd see a perfectly manicured lawn, a white picket fence and my steady boyfriend's ford thunderbird parked out front.*

*or a motorcycle if I happened to be dating the Fonz. Ayyy....

January always reminds me of a black and white photo. Maybe because outside the weather is crisp and the landscape is dusted with snow, maybe because I associate NYE with black tie events or maybe just because there is a stillness to it after the whirlwind of the holidays. Either way, January always seems so quiet and calm to me- a perfect start to a fresh new year.

South Beach

I love the feeling of beach weddings but sometimes it's nice to see a reception that doesn't revolve around seashells and sand :) With that in mind, I thought I'd share a board I made a few days back that focuses on a more modern, South Beach feel. I just love how the turquoise pops off of the black and white! Enjoy!

A Black Tie Affair

I'm usually drawn to more earthy types of weddings, but every once in awhile I love thinking about an incredibly sleek modern affair. Inspired by an all white peony bouquet, this board shows a wedding created entirely around a black and white palette. A lot of people have a hard time incorporating black into a wedding because they feel it is too "funeral-esque", but I think b&w weddings are absolutely beautiful when done correctly. The key is only add touches of black- in your jewelry, by using a checkerboard dance floor, the tuxes, etc, and to leave everything else white or a metallic (such as candlesticks in mercury glass or silver). And remember- if you're trying to keep your wedding from being associated with death and or halloween, steer clear of black roses (or any other flower for that matter) and black candlesticks! Think 007 and beautiful b&w photos- not the Addams family.

Valentines Wedding

Since Valentines Day falls on a Saturday this year, I've been thinking a lot about how you could have a valentines day wedding, without being too cutesy or cliche. I think it would be best to stick to deep reds, and the classic staples of black and white.

V. classic, v. timeless- with just the smallest touch of modern to bring it up to date.

This is what I'm envisioning:

How awesome are these dresses??!! One dress and 10 ways to wear it. This is one you can truthfully say you picked so they can wear it again.
I think I might buy one just because. What a great travel dress.

and don't forget lots and lots of red roses.

oh and just a few more things to envision:
a black and white dance floor and because I love music so much, an amazing jazz band performing Fly Me to the Moon, My Funny Valentine, and The Way You Look Tonight.

Now, back to the real world. Have a great night y'all!
